Robert Grosseteste was born in the year of 1175 A.D. and died #onthisday 9th October 1253 A.D.
He was an English statesman, theologian, scholastic philosopher, bishop of Lincoln and scientist.
He was born into a humble family in the area of Stradbroke in Suffolk
Just before his death, he was almost universally revered as a Saint in England. but attempts of being formally canonized failed.
According to A.C.Crombie who argues he was “the real founder of the tradition of scientific thought in medieval Oxford, and in some ways, of the modern English intellectual tradition”.
Grosseteste was already an elderly man, with a firmly established reputation, when he became a bishop. As an ecclesiastical statesman, he showed the same fiery zeal and versatility of which he had given proof in his academic career.
