Cosimo di Giovanni de’ Medici was also called “the Elder”, born onthisday in history 27th September 1389 A.D. and died 1st of August 1464 A.D. He was an Italian banker and a politician of the first of the Medici political dynasty. The de facto rulers of Florence during much of the Italian Renaissance.
However his influence was limited because his power was not absolute, Florence’s legislative councils at this time resisted his proposals, something wouldn’t have been tolerated by the Visconti of Milan.
For Example throughout his life he was always primus inter pares “First among equals”.
His power came from his wealth as a banker and the great patrons of learning, architecture, and the arts.
