Richard I was born #onthisday 28th August 933 A.D. and died 20th of November 996 A.D.
He was remembered as Richard the Fearless and was a Count of Rouen from 942-996 A.D.
Dudo of Saint-Quentin was commissioned by Richard to write some works. “On the Customs and Deeds of the First Dukes of Normandy”. These works celebrated Richard’s renowned leadership in war and also referred to his great Nobility.
Richard may have introduced feudalism into Normandy and he greatly expanded the ideas. At the end of his reign Norman landholders held their lands in feudal tenure.
