Frederick Henrik af Chapman was born 9th September 1721 A.D. in Gothenburg and died #onthisday, 19th August 1808 A.D. Frederick was a Swedish shipbuilder, scientist and an officer in the Swedish army.
He was also the manager of the Karlskrona shipyard 1782-1793 A.D.
Chapman is credited for the being the first person to apply scientific methods to shipbuilding and is considered to be the first naval architect.
He was the author of “Architectura Navalis Mercatoria (1768) and the several shipbuilding- related to the work. Frederick was the first shipbuilder in Northern Europe to introduce Prefabrication in the shipyards and managed to produce several series in record time.
