The Battle of Ankara was fought #onthisday 20th July in 1402 A.D. at Cubuk Plain near Ankara between forces of the Ottoman Sultan Bayezid I and Timur, Ruler of the Timurid Empire.
This was a major battle that took place and ended with a victory for Timur, which lead to a period of crisis for the Ottoman Empire known as (The Ottoman Interregnum).
However, the Timurid Empire went into terminal decline after the death of Timur within just three years of the battle.
A brief time later the Ottoman Empire made a full recovery and was able to increase its power for another two to three centuries.
The estimated of figures that the Timurid army counted about 140,000 which was mostly cavalry and 32 elephants. Bayezids was a numbered 85,000.
