Thomas Howard was 21st Earl of Arundel born #onthisday 7th July 1586 A.D. and died 4th October 1646 A.D.

He was an important English courtier during the reigns of King James I and King Charles I. Thomas made a name for himself as a Grand Tourist by being an art collector rather than a politician. When he died he had 700 paintings and many large collections of sculptures, prints, books, drawings and antiquity jewelry.

Most of his collection of marble carvings known as the Arundel Marbles was lent to the University of Oxford.
