Matilda I born in 1105 A.D. and died #onthisday in history 3rd May in 1152 A.D. was the Countess of Boulogne. Matilda was the Queen consort of England as the wife of the King Stephen. Not to be confused with Empress Matilda the first Cousin it was her and her husband who fought for the English throne in the civil war period known as the Anarchy.

In this period Matilda was forced into an odd role in society and history for a woman when her husband was captured, she had proven to be effective general and managed to force her cousin to release him.

Under the condition that was settled in the civil war her children did not inherit the throne.
