Boris I died  #onthisday in history 2nd May 907 A.D. he was the Ruler of the first Bulgarian Empire from 852-889 A.D. At the time of his baptism in the 864 A.D. Boris was named Michael after his godfather, who was Emperor Michael III.

Boris had a number of military setbacks but he changed the course of Bulgarian and European history. With the Christianization of Bulgaria and the traditional state religion of Tengriism religion was abolished. He was a skillful diplomat and dealt with conflict between the Patriarch of Constantinople and the Papacy, this secured the Bulgarian church and thus dealt with the problems about the Byzantine and interference of Bulgarian internal affairs.
