John Somers, the 1st Barons of Somers died #onthisday 26th April 1716 A.D. was a English whig jurist and statesman.
John first came onto the national stage during the trial of Seven Bishops as he was on their defence council.
He wrote on numbers of works on tracts of political topics such as the succession of the crown where he elaborated the whig principles of the support of the Exclusionist. John played a vital part in the shaping of the revolution settlement. James was a lord high chancellor of England under King William III and an important player of the union between England and Scotland.
