Æthelred II was born in the year of 966 A.D. and died #onthisday in history 23rd April 1016 A.D. he was the king of the English between 978-1013 A.D. and again in 1014-1016 A.D. He was the son of King Edgar “the peaceful” and the Queen of Elfthryth he was around 12 years older when his half brother was killed, Edward the Martyr on 18th March 978 A.D.

The death of his brother Æthelred was not involved but had him suspected of participating, the murder was committed at Corfe castle by his attendants, which made it more difficult for the new king to rally the nation the military raids of Danes.
