Field Marshal George Hamilton was the 1st Early of Orkney and was born #onthisday 9th February 1666 A.D. and died on 29th January 1737 A.D. he was Lord George Hamilton from 1666 A.D. until 1696 A.D. a British soldier and a Scottish nobleman and the first British army officer to be promoted to the rank of field marshal.

He was in command of a regiment for the cause of William of Orange during a Williamite War in Ireland and commanded a regiment of the Low Countries during the nine years war.

George led the final assault in the Battle of Blenheim on an attacking village church yard with eight battalions of men which led to receiving the surrenders of the French defenders during the Wars of Spanish Succession.
