Hulagu Khan was born in 1218 A.D. and died #onthisday 8th February 1265 A.D. he was a Mongol ruler who conquered much of Western Asia. he was the son of Tolui and Kerait Princess known as Sorghaghtani Beki and a Grandson of Genghis Khan. His brothers were Mongke Khan, Ariq Boke and Kublai Khan.

Hulagu expanded the Mongol Empire greatly into the southwestern portion of the empire. He founded the Ilkhanate of Persia which was later turned into the Safavid Dynasty and then the modern state of Iran.

Under his leadership the siege of Baghdad which took place 1258 A.D. and destroyed one the greatest centre’s of Islamic thought and power this also weakened Damascus. Which shifted the influence of the Islamic Mameluke Sultanate in Cairo.
