Sir Thomas More was born #onthisday 7th February and died on 6th July 1535 A.D. he was an English lawyer, Author, Social philosopher and statesman, even noted as a Renaissance Humanist.
He was the counsellor to Henry VIII and the Lord High Chancellor of England from 1529 until 1532 A.D.
He published and wrote the works of Utopia in 1516 A.D. which was about the political system of the nation.
Thomas was against the idea of Protestant reformation in particular the theology of Martin Luther and William Tyndale. He was opposed to the king’s separation from the Catholic Church and it didn’t go unrecognised by Henry as the Supreme Head of the Church of England and who even went as far as the Annulment of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. After this he even refused to swear the Oath of Supremacy and he was Convicted for treason and was beheaded, in his Final words he said “I die the King’s good servant, and God’s first”…..
