Isaac Komnenos was born #onthisday 16th January 1092 A.D. and died after 1152 A.D. he was the third son of Byzantine Emperor Alexios I Komnenos and the Empress Irene Doukaina. Isaac was raised to a high rank as Sebastokrator by his elder brother John II Komnenons. However they later fell out and Isaac was exiled by John a few years after. At a time when John’s succession took place, on 1143 A.D. he support the unsuccessful candidate, his nephew who was named Isaac over the Younger Manuel I Komnenos. A few years later he was forced to retire and he ended up in a monastery due to his brother Manuel. He was noted for his patronage of learning.
