Gemmas Frisius was born #onthisday in history December 9th 1508 A.D. and died May 25th 1555 A.D. he was a Mathematician, Cartographer, Physician, so he was multi-talented.

Remembered for creating vital globes which much improved the precision of mathematical instruments of his day and applied new a way of surveying and navigation.

He was one of the most important teachers at Leuven with Franciscus Monachus who in 1527 A.D. made a famous globe in collaboration with the Leuven goldsmith (Gaspar van der Heyden). There was a great amount of work in the making of globes made, and here is an example
