Alexios III Megas Komenos was born #onthisday in history 5th October 1338 A.D. and died on 20th March 1390 A.D. he was the emperor of Trebizond from december 1349 A.D. until his death.

He was one of the most well-documented rulers of that country and his reign was interesting because of the number of Literary creations and Religious grants.

He was the son of Emperor Basil of Trebizond and Trebizond’s second wife known as Irene of Trebizond, his original name was John, however he took the name Alexios in the memory of his older brother who died prematurely they also shared the same name as their grandfather.
