Battle of Stamford Bridge took place at the village of Stamford bridge in Yorkshire #onthisday in history 25th September 1066 A.D. the war between the English Army King Harold Godwinson and the invading force of Norwegians Led by Harald Hardrada and the English brother Tostig Godwinson.
There was a bloody battle, both, Tostig and Hardrada and most of the Norwegians were killed. This invasion was repelled by Harold Godwinson and the English armies. Three weeks later Godwinson was defeated by the Normans at the battle of Hastings. This is traditionally seen as the end of the Viking age even though there were still major Scandinavian campaigns in Britain and Ireland that continued to occur for the following decades.
