#Onthisday in history the Battle of Maserfield was fought on the 5th August in the year of 642 A.D. between the Anglo-Saxon kings who were Oswald of Northumbria and Penda of Mercia which ended in Oswald’s defeat, death, and dismemberment. The battle was also known as Cogwy to the welsh and with their Countrymen from Pengwern who was in battle. The battle of the site is traditionally identified with Oswestry, but there has been many debates of the location.
