Francesco Petrarca died #onthisday 19th 1374 A.D. he was commonly known as Petrarch, he was an Italian scholar and a poet in the renaissance period; he was also one of the earliest humanist. With the rediscovery of Cicero’s letters he is often initiating the 14th century renaissance period. He was considered the founder of humanism. In the 16 century Pietro Bembo created the modern Italian language based on Petrarch’s work. Petrarch’s sonnets were admired by many people in Europe during the renaissance, and he is also known to have developed the concept of the dark ages.
