Saichō was born September 15 767 A.D. and died #onthisday June 26th 822 A.D. he was an interesting figure in history, A Japanese Buddhist monk who was accredited with the founding of the Tenda school in Japan. The Tenda school was based on the Chinese Tiantai culture and tradition. When he travel to learn about the culture and tradition in China of beginning in 804 A.D. He created and founded a temple and Headquarters in the Tendai at Enrkyu-jj which was on Mt. Hiei near Kyoto.

A groovy fun fact: he was said to have been the first to bring Tea to Japan,  after his death he was awarded the title of Dengyo Daishi
