#Onthisday in history Æthelflæd known as the “Lady of Mercian’s, dies 12th June 918 A.D., but she ruled Merica from 911 A.D. until her death which is the date today. She was the eldest daughter of the Alfred the Great, who was the King of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Wessex and his Queen Ealhswith. Æthelflæd was born in the era at the height of the Viking invasion of England. Her father married her of to Æthelred, Lord of the Mericans. After his Death she ruled the “Anglo-Saxons”, and her name as the Lady of the Mercians.

In the year of 918 A.D. the people of the region within York, pledged their loyalty to Æthelflæd, in order to secure support against the Norse raiders from Ireland.
