#Onthisday in history Dirk Willems died on the 16th May 1569 A.D. Dirk was a Dutch Martyred Anabaptist, his most famous act was escaping from prison, then turning around to rescue his pursuer who had fallen through the thin ice, whilst chasing Willems. Though this was a selfless act he was then recaptured, tortured and killed for his faith.

He was born in Asperen in Ggelderland Netherlands. He was Baptized at a young age, but later rejected the infant baptism practice.
