7th may #onthisday in history 1605 A.D. Patriarch Nikon of Moscow, was born. He was the seventh patriarch of Moscow and all of Russ, which was the Russian Orthodox Church, from the years of 1652 A.D. to 1666 A.D. His was renowned for his energy, piety and eloquence and being close to Tsar Alexis of Russia. He introduced many reforms which led to the lasting of the Schism known as Raskol.  For many years he was a dominant political figure and masterfully pulled the strings of the Tsar. Some of his reforms were not so popular amongst the populous.
