#Onthisday in #history 881.AD – Pope John VIII crowns Charles the Fat, the King of #Italy: Holy Roman Emperor.
He was also known as Charles III he was the Carolingian Emperor from 881 to 888. Youngest son of Louis the German and Hemma as well, Charles was the great-grandson of Charlemagne , the last of the Carolingian’s to rule over a united empire.
The Reunification of the empire didn’t last long, During the coup by his nephew Arnulf of Carinthia in November 887.AD . At the point Charles was deposed in East France, Lotharingia and Italy he was forced into quite retirement and died in the year of 888.AD January.
After Charles the empire fell apart and never was it restored the empire was separated into five different successor kingdoms.
