#Onthisday in #History 457.AD – Leo I the Thracian becomes emperor of the Byzantine Empire. Leo Ruled the Easter Roman Empire for nearly 20 years, he proved to be a good and capable ruler. He oversaw many of his military and political plans, by aiming to mostly aid the failing wester roman empire as well as set out the task to recovering the former territories. The First Notable Eastern Roman Emperor to legislate in Greek , rather in the Language of the Latin.

Legacy he is commemorated as a Saint in the Orthodox Church with a feast on the 20 of January.
